Submerge

She plumes as she sinks
like a silken moon
iridescent
her tentacled threads
pulled loose by the water

Float

She pulls up slightly
fanning her hem into a fin
her frilled collar becomes gills
and she breathes in a lungless breath

Drown

Silk breaks the surface in parts
descaled
her tail runs along the seam
where water meets air
and the river drains her away
