Whether you write to record, to discover, to escape or create, when times are tough, the inner critic can get loud and finding our way to the page can prove difficult.

Join Kerry Ryan, editor of So Long As You Write, for this special nurturing workshop where she’ll share tips, tools and strategies on how to shrink the inner critic, get those words on the page and celebrate delight and joy, no matter what’s going on in our lives and the wider world.

This two-hour online workshop hosted by Dear Damsels is the perfect way to explore and better understand your relationship with writing, and is suitable for those who are new to writing as well as more experienced writers. There will be writing exercises, but no need to share work.

This online workshop will take place on Zoom. Numbers are limited. Participants will need a good internet connection and ideally a working microphone and camera on their device to take part. The two-hour session will include a short refreshment break.

Thinking of submitting for our next online theme, EGO? This could be the perfect way to get those creative juices flowing, as Kerry prompts you to consider ways to navigate ego, the inner critic and your relationship with writing.

This workshop is part of a series of special events marking the publication of So Long As You Write: Women on Writing. You don’t need to have read the book in order to take part!

So Long As You Write (published by Dear Damsels in June 2022) shares the words of fifteen women writers as they explore what happens when we give ourselves the space to put pen to paper – whether it’s the joy of opening a new notebook or the thrill of a new idea, or the self-doubt and uncertainty that those things can bring. Alongside stories about stubborn characters, poems that grapple with the blank page and essays celebrating the special connection forged through writing communities, there’s also encouragement and advice for your creative practice.

Edited by Kerry Ryan, founder of Write Like a Grrrl, this collection is the perfect place to turn for a reminder that it doesn’t matter who is reading – so long as you write.
