by Jasmine Thompson

stubbornly she seduces
and suffers silently
eyes fixed in blanket state
sirens sing and wolves howl

clutching the wide eyed cat in her lap
head wrapped haphazardly
in deep blue babushka
to muffle the screech of the wind

and his words
that cut
words made for war and control
of her body, softly

she lies down in peace
in dreams she conspires
awake with new fire
fresh faced and full bellied

still hungry
still fighting
still crying
still trying
