We’re sure we don’t need to tell you why International Women’s Day is such an important day in our calendars. A day for celebrating women, a day for loudly advocating for gender parity, a day for championing intersectionality, a day for yelling #MeToo, #TimesUp, #PressforProgress, a day for using our voices and being outwardly, loudly and proudly female.

Unsurprisingly, there are events upon events happening to commemorate IWD this year – we’ve picked a couple that caught our eye. Turn up, speak out and celebrate March 8th as you should; surrounded by talented, capable, powerful women.

1.Like a Woman – Penguin Pop-up Bookshop

Penguin have set up a pop up bookshop from March 5th-9th, celebrating women of the past present and future. They promise that the books on sale will inspire you to rebel, shout and make waves, providing a roster of events to keep you entertained as you browse. Go, grab a book or two, before this brilliant female focused pop-up pops down.

2. Spoon Meets: A Female Founder Panel for International Women’s Day

Fancy some free food and to listen to the wise words of some female founders? LABS, in collaboration with Spoon, are hosting an breakfast panel for women who are filling the gender gaps in their fields, acting as role models for future female and male leaders to come. There are also complimentary breakfast pots and tea, and all funds from ticket sales will be donated to Smart Works.

3. That’s What She Said: Royal Albert Hall

One of our favourite spoken word nights, That’s What She Said, is bringing their fiery, incentive performances to the Royal Albert Hall. Including poets such as Sophie Walker and Lisa Luxx, this promises to be a fiercely feminist and empowering evening.

4. International Women’s Day Celebration Fundraiser at Deadwax Social

For any of our Brighton based Damsels, head to this evening at Deadwax Social in aid of Allsorts Youth Project, a LGBTQU charity. Expect spoken word, music, DJ’s, sparkles, rainbows and all the good vibes you require to celebrate IWD in your glittery best. Gender neutral toilets and disabled access available.

5. She Leads: International Women’s Day Breakfast

A strong breakfast theme in this list (you know how much DD loves a breakfast meeting) and this one marking the launch of She Leads is a great one to start off your International Women’s Day. An all female panel will be talking about issues of empowerment and leadership, building your own community and the politics of being a woman. Breakfast is of course included, and there’s even time for a cheeky bit of networking. Get yourself and your voice out there, Damsels. It’s the day to do it.

Putting on an event for IWD, or know of one happening near you? Tweet us @deardamsels and we’ll share it far and wide.
